In yet another case of how FFP rules are only designed to prevent small clubs from being successful, Chelsea have spent a ridiculous amount of money since Todd Boehly took charge of the club. Even under Mauricio Pochettino, it seems like the manager has no say in deals which come in and instead, they are the responsibility of the flamboyant owner.
Well, this summer is no different. They have spent over the odds on Moises Caicedo and countless other signings who, if I listed them all, you would probably fall asleep before I got half way through them.
Of course, I say this as a neutral fan. I’m sure there are Chelsea fans out there who absolutely love how much the owner is investing into the club. To that I would say, you’re right, but I wouldn’t be pleased until those players start performing on the pitch and as a collective.
Chelsea book in the medical for Djordje Petrović
Anyway, my ramble aside, there is due to be another Chelsea signing. According to the most trusted source in the world, Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have booked in the medical for their new goalkeeper signing Djordje Petrović. The medical is due for Wednesday and should all go to plan, he will be available for Chelsea’s next match.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton this summer. The goalkeeper has started in both of the matches so far and looks like the calibre of a player which Chelsea needs if they have any chance of qualifying for Europe this season.
However, Pochettino is following the same route which Arsenal and Manchester City approach, which is to have the strongest possible backup options. Therefore, the club is willing to spend some resources to sign the New England Revolution goalkeeper.
What do you make of Boehly’s latest signing?
