Yesterday, we reported on Fabrizio Romano’s update regarding Nuno Tavares, claiming that it wasn’t looking good for the Portuguese defender as he was struggling to obtain his move away from Arsenal.

Aston Villa explore options to sign Arsenal flop Nuno Tavares

Well, there has been a further update regarding Tavares, as reported by the transfer expert. Posting to X, Romano has confirmed that Aston Villa are now exploring options to sign Nuno Tavares from Arsenal, as Unai Emery is looking for alternatives in case the Marcos Acuna deal collapses.

Certainly, Nuno Tavares would be more excited by the opportunity to work with Unai Emery at Villa than he would’ve been playing at Nottingham Forest. Villa looks like they could compete for European football again this season, after securing their place in the Europa Conference League.

Since taking charge in the Midlands, Emery has turned the club around, and is now focusing on bringing in some young talent who he can develop into the next generation of superstars. The 23-year-old Nuno Tavares still has time to turn his career around, after his failed time at Arsenal.

For Mikel Arteta, his best option is to sell Tavares. While he could send him out on another loan, the chances of that spell working and Tavares coming back to fight for his place in the starting eleven is minimal. Particularly considering the talent which Arsenal possess, this seems like fighting a lost cause, so freeing up some wages and obtaining some more transfer budget is more worthwhile.

Do you think Nuno Tavares should join Aston Villa?
