Arsenal have had the best summer transfer window in the Premier League. Although their spending was topped by Chelsea (obviously), the red side of London has strengthened in the relevant places and Mikel Arteta has been tactical with his reinforcements.

The Gunners started their 2023/24 Premier League campaign well with a win over Nottingham Forest. Tonight, they’ll face Crystal Palace away from home.

One of the most relevant stories surrounding Arsenal right now is their battle to survive without Gabriel Jesus again. Once more, Eddie Nketiah has been asked to step up and provide the goals which, in fairness, he has done.

However, with a view of the long-term future for the striker position, there are question marks over the legitimacy of Jesus and Nketiah. Firstly, Jesus is injured and doesn’t score as many goals. Secondly, Nketiah has been on the cusp of first team football without a serious challenge for some time now.

Therefore, the aim for next summer should be to sign an out-and-out striker who has the ability to score 20+ goals in a season. Mikel Arteta seems to have found his man.

According to the football correspondent Jacque Talbot, The £100m rated Brighton and Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson will be Arteta’s main transfer target next season. The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international is one of the most sought-after prolific goal scorers.

It’s likely, then, that one of Nketiah or Jesus will be sold. In my opinion, it’ll be Nketiah. While Arteta is a big fan of Nketiah, Jesus was signed as a statement of intent for the future. Either way, to add Ferguson to the equation would be incredibly exciting.

Do you think Arsenal will sign Evan Ferguson?
