Given the injury to Jurrien Timber in gameweek 1 of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, every single Arsenal defender needs to be ready to give their 110% effort. Timber was signed as a versatile defender who could play across the back-line, but unfortunately, he is now due to miss a big chunk of this season.

Therefore, Mikel Arteta is relying on those below him to step up and fill in. One of those players is Kieran Tierney, who has been on the cusp of first-team football ever since Mikel Arteta took charge. While Tierney and Timber do not play in the same position, the injury to Timber may force other defenders out of position, which could result in more game time for Tierney.

However, this hasn’t stopped rumours linking the Scotsman with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. Throughout the summer, he has been linked with various moves including Newcastle United and Manchester City. However, in a strange turn of events, Tierney could go back where he originally belonged.

Celtic are best placed to re-sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal

That’s right. According to Football Insider, Celtic are now best placed to sign their former prodigy Kieran Tierney. According to the report, Celtic feels they can persuade Arsenal to let them re-sign Tierney, despite Rodgers not willing to sign a player for £15m-£20m.

Celtic will play Champions League football as well as Arsenal this season. Therefore, for the player, the move would be one of comfort. Not only because he knows the surroundings better than most, but because it wouldn’t feel like a step down in his career.

Granted, the final call will be from Arsenal. If Arteta feels like he needs Tierney to make an impact this season (and that includes more than just coming from the bench), then he will inform the player.

Where do you think Kieran Tierney will play this season?
