Manchester United didn’t have the best start to their Premier League campaign. Granted, they secured three points and obtained a clean sheet but it wasn’t an overall convincing performance from Erik ten Hag’s side. He will expect better from his team as they face Tottenham Hotspur this evening.

The goal which saved Manchester United from a stalemate on their opening fixture was a header from defender Raphael Varane late on. The 30-year-old defender who is one of the best in his position is now being linked with a move away.

That’s right, according to a report from Express, Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League has been linked with a lucrative move for Raphael Varane of Manchester United.

Varane is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025 and is well respected as a staple in the first team. Therefore, Erik ten Hag has no desire to sell him. When he is fit, he starts and when he starts, Manchester United improves. This was shown in their opening Premier League fixture.

However, the Saudi Pro League is the enemy to Europe’s top leagues as they persist in signing their best players. As the Saudi Pro League is not covered by FFP regulations, they are free to offer big money and bid contracts to the best clubs and players in Europe, with Varane next on their wishlist.

As much as Manchester United will want to keep Varane, football is a business at the end of the day. No club in their right mind would turn down huge money for a player, regardless of how important that player is to them.

I’m not saying that I think Varane will be sold. I think he’ll want to stay at Old Trafford and the club needs him for their upcoming Champions League campaign. However, it’s certainly a possibility.

Do you think Al-Ittihad will sign Raphael Varane?
