With the transfer window closing soon, West Ham are still desperate to add reinforcements. They have managed to sign Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, but after struggling with a relegation battle last season, they will need a few more players to compete better in the Premier League.

However, a former favourite of West Ham United fans is currently training with the club after his contract expired in the summer.

32 caps to his name and looking to build his career again

Jesse Lingard is the man who is currently training with the club following his release from Nottingham Forest after a very poor year for the attacking midfielder. He joined Forest amidst a foray of new signings but failed to establish himself as a regular due to not being in Steve Cooper’s plans and picking up several injuries.

However, Lingard enjoyed a fruitful spell with the London club as he joined on loan in 2021 and he was expected to join the London club for the 2021/22 season, but he was told he was needed at Manchester United; yet he did not play as often as he wanted to.

What is currently going on with the West Ham – Lingard situation?

West Ham is in clear need of players, and despite the success of the Europa Conference last year, they did struggle in the league. With the departure of Declan Rice, they could be down there once again unless the signings are the right ones.

Lingard is still a favourite with many, despite choosing Forest over West Ham last summer,  after his brief loan spell as he scored nine league goals in sixteen appearances and a move for him would still be welcome amongst the majority of West Ham fans.

Still, only 30 years old, Lingard is only training with the club in a bid to keep up his fitness so that if he did make a move, he was good to go straight away as the leagues have kicked off.

Despite manager David Moyes stating that Lingard is just training with the club, it is reported that he has impressed in training, and a move could be considered.

Watch this spot for Lingard!
