Talented striker scheduled to be in London to complete Chelsea move

After wrapping up their deal for Moises Caicedo in what will be a British record transfer, Chelsea’s focus will now shift to the rest of Mauricio Pochettino’s wishlist, which The Top Flight has recently covered. Given the long-term project built by Todd Boehly, Chelsea has also been signing players that aren’t necessarily immediate contenders to be with the senior but have the potential to be stars down the line. An example of this is Angelo Gabriel, who joined from Brazilian Santos earlier this summer and has now been sent out to Strasbourg, owned by Boehly, in Ligue 1.
There’s an expectation that another talented youngster, viewed as one for the future, will be coming through the doors of Stamford Bridge shortly. Fabrizio Romano confirms that Santos striker Deivid Washington is set to fly to London and have his medical on August 14th. The total package for Washington could rise to £17m with add-ons. Romano states that Santos has already signed all the needed documents to complete the transfer. Deivid will sign a 6-year contract that will contain an option to extend the contract by a further year.
It is undecided whether or not Washington will join his former teammate Angelo Gabriel at Strasbourg, but it would make sense to do so. Washington was yet to fully make a breakthrough as a regular at Santos, but he is regarded as one of the club’s better prospects.
He scored three goals in the most recent Copinha, a highly-scouted youth tournament that takes place every year in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. Santos reached the semi-finals of the game but lost to America-MG. He scored his first professional goal for Santos as a 17-year-old in May 2023, netting the game-winner just four minutes into the match. He also has appearances in the Copa Libertadores for Santos this season.
