Manchester United have gotten in their key targets, notably in the striker and keeper position. One other position they would like to add a player is their midfield, preferably a defensive-minded midfielder. The club also will look to replace Harry Maguire as he inches closer to his West Ham move. Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard is touted as the top target to replace Maguire. The club may also lose Scott McTominay to West Ham and have sold Fred to Fenerbahce, furthering the idea that another midfielder must be signed.
The club has held a long interest in Sofyan Amrabat but has yet to make any real progress on a move for the Morrocan midfielder. It’s not been revealed what Fiorentina would want for Amrabat, but after a phenomenal World Cup and Serie A season, they will likely command a large fee. Erik ten Hag may have to face the reality of approaching other targets, and Manchester United is interested in one Premier League midfielder.
The Guardian is reporting that United have made contact with Everton over a potential transfer of Amadou Onana to Old Trafford. The Guardian’s Steinberg says that ten Hag has a concern about the team’s lack of physicality, a problem that Amadou Onana could surely fix. With little progress made with Amrabat, Manchester United could focus on Onana.
When Amadou Onana joined Everton from Lille last summer, then-manager Frank Lampard described the player as someone with “massive potential.”
The Guardian believes Everton is hugely reluctant to sell Amadou Onana and would likely command a fee over £50m. Despite concerns about Everton’s finances, it is being reported that they are not in a position where they absolutely have to sell Onana to fund other targets. What might make it difficult for the Toffees to retain Amadou Onana is if United seriously step up their interest and let the player know their intentions. This situation is one to watch, especially if United completely drop their pursuit of Amrabat.
