Much of the talk around potential Manchester United outgoings is centred around Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. The former may be on the brink of joining West Ham United, as The Top Flight has covered. One name that has not seen much headlines but could be someone to departure this summer is striker Anthony Martial. New reports suggest a fellow Premier League side has checked in on his status at Manchester United.

West Ham makes contact with Manchester United over Anthony Martial

Alex Crook of TalkSport is reporting that West Ham have “registered their interest” with Manchester United for Anthony Martial. Crook states that at the moment, it is undecided if Erik ten Hag would let Martial leave this summer, and thus, talks, as of now, are not advancing to a crucial stage.

The signing of Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford being able to play as a striker may make Martial expendable.

After the 21-22 season, fans would be forgiven if they thought Anthony Martial’s career at Manchester United was over. He struggled to stay fit in the first half of the season, which ultimately sent the Frenchman out on loan to Sevilla for the second half. Under Erik ten Hag this past season, Martial earned more playing time but still had fitness and injury issues. With that said, it was a bit of a bounce-back season for Martial as he recorded six goals in just 21 Premier League matches.

Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 from AS Monaco in what was a shock deal for the teenager. Manchester United paid £44.7m for Martial, and the transfer had potential add-ons that included him winning the Ballon d’Or. Martial’s played nearly 300 games in all competitions with United and has 88 goals to date. While he maybe never became the superstar he was once hailed to be, Martial enjoyed multiple successful campaigns at Old Trafford. Should he leave for West Ham, it likely will not be for a massive fee, given his contract expires next summer.
