Signing Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia may no longer be on the cards for Liverpool. As The Top Flight has covered, at different points in time, the Reds were poised to sign both Caicedo and Lavia, but now both are moving closer to a transfer to Chelsea. Should those transfers go through, that will leave Liverpool in a tricky spot where they will have to act quickly to sign a defensive midfielder. The club is now linked to a midfielder that is reportedly on the shortlist of Liverpool’s midfield targets.

Liverpool interested in PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare

Via ESPN NL, former Dutch footballer Kiki Musampa, whose brother is the agent of Ibrahim Sangare, states that Liverpool is among a list of teams that are interested in Ibrahim Sangare. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also reportedly admirers of the Ivorian midfielder. Sangare was linked to Nottingham Forest this window, and it seemed as if the Premier League side were really focused on signing him. Nothing ever came out of it, and he is still on the market for a potential move.

Born and raised in the Ivory Coast, Sangare moved to France in 2016, joining the reserves of Toulouse before fully joining the first team in Ligue 1 in 2017. After three consecutive strong seasons in the French top flight, Sangare was subject to both interest from Southampton and PSV. He ultimately ended up signing for the Dutch side, where he has become one of the better players in the Eredivisie. During his time in Eindhoven, Sangare has won the KNVB Cup twice with PSV as well as lifting the Johan Cruyff Shield three times.

Sangare is able to do a bit of everything; he has a solid offensive instinct and can pass extremely well, but he is also a defensive rock in the PSV midfield. It’s hard to say what PSV would command in terms of a fee, but after the Moises Caicedo saga, we all know Liverpool has money to spend.
