One of the biggest weeks in this summer transfer window is upon us. As The Top Flight covered last night, Chelsea has sent a bid to Southampton for Romeo Lavia. This has sparked a lot of debate about what might happen with Moises Caicedo. Chelsea has been the long favourite to land the Ecuadorian, but a massive shift has taken place.

Perhaps retaliation, but Liverpool has told Brighton they plan to bid for Moises Caicedo in what would be a shock coup by the Reds. This news was first broken by Matt Law, but since then, it is believed Liverpool actually has not yet outbid Chelsea but plans to do so. Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea is still really adamant about landing Moises Caicedo. They would love it if they could unveil Moises Caicedo on Sunday at Stamford Bridge against Liverpool. Brighton are expected to send Moises Caicedo to the highest bidder between Liverpool and Chelsea. While not said directly, it sounds as if Brighton is willing to budge on their £100m valuation of Caicedo.

More recent news from Fabrizio Romano suggests Brighton wants to figure out Moises Caicedo’s decision tonight, just days before the club kickoff their Premier League season. Romano confirms reports that Liverpool will send a formal bid to Brighton soon.

Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Liverpool does have the funds to make a record transfer for Moises Caicedo, but the Merseyside club internally expects Caicedo to still move to Chelsea. Joyce believes that Caicedo missed training earlier this week in hopes of pushing for a move to Chelsea. It is believed that Liverpool’s push for Caicedo more or less is positioning the club nicely if Chelsea decides to walk away from a Caicedo deal.

The situation is rapidly developing and more sure to follow.
