West Ham United are on the brink of signing their first player this window. As The Top Flight has covered, midfielder Edson Alvarez will be joining from Dutch giants Ajax. The club has already confirmed the outgoings of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca. Now the club look set to confirm another departure in the near future.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Serie A side Torino are close to sealing a permanent deal for Nikola Vlasic from West Ham. Vlasic spent last on loan at Torino, and it looks like his future will lie in Italy. The reported fee West Ham will receive is roughly £10m. West Ham paid around a total package of £25.8m for Vlasic when he moved from CSKA Moscow in 2021. It has not been clear how much of that package was ever paid as it was in installments and was before the Russian League was blacklisted by FIFA.

In just one season at the club, Vlasic scored just a single goal for West Ham in a 4-1 win against Watford. With the club set to take a substantial loss on the transfer, it can be said Vlasic’s time in East London did not go well. The Croatian international’s time in Turin went much better, hence the permanent move. Vlasic recorded 11 goal contributions under fellow Croatian Ivan Juric in Serie A last season.

Vlasic is a Hajduk Split academy product and spent four seasons with the club at the senior level. This won’t be Nikola’s first departure from a Premier League club, either. Vlasic joined Everton in 2017 from Hadjuk but played just 19 games with the Toffees before departing for Russia.

David Moyes was unlikely to use Nikola Vlasic at West Ham, or at least he was unlikely to be a large contributor. With both Lucas Paqueta and Pablo Fornals occupying similar spots, Nikola Vlasic was never going to be a factor.
