Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain has been subject to much turmoil this summer. Lionel Messi has left on a free transfer to Inter Miami, and PSG is ready to bench Kylian Mbappe, who is refusing to sign a new contract. Now the French side faces the exit of Brazilian star Neymar. Spanish outlet Relevo reveals that Neymar presently has three options if he leaves PSG: join Major League Soccer, sign in Saudi Arabia or sign with a Premier League side. Relevo also suggests that Neymar would be open to joining a Premier League side if the offer was sufficient. Chelsea may be the ones to pounce.
French reports suggest Chelsea still has contact with Neymar
RMC Sport is also covering the news that Neymar wants to depart Paris Saint-Germain. While a return to Barcelona looks to be something Neymar would want to do, financially speaking, it does seem realistic. French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that Chelsea still has contact with the intermediaries of Neymar. The Telegraph suggests that Chelsea’s long-time links with Neymar could provide Stamford Bridge as a landing spot, but whether or not Todd Boehly will pursue a deal is yet to be decided.
While Neymar has long been considered a winger, in recent seasons at PSG, he has been deployed most often as an attacking midfielder. It feels unlikely if Neymar were to join Chelsea that he would take starting minutes away from Mykhaylo Mudryk out on the left-wing. Neymar’s current contract runs until 2025, but with both parties wanting a separation, it’s reasonable he will go for a relatively low fee.
Neymar’s 6 season stay in Paris look to be coming to an end after joining Barcelona in 2017 for the largest transfer ever. Still regarded as one of the best in the world, Neymar could be a phenomenal signing for Chelsea should he join. While things feel unlikely at the moment, the club remaining in contact with the player puts in them in a good position should Todd Boehly press the button to bring the Brazilian to London.
