West Ham United has yet to make a signing this window, although Ajax’s Edson Alvarez looks to be the first through the door. What the Hammers will do next with their Declan Rice spending cash has started to come to fruition. They are looking to add a duo of British players from Manchester United to play under David Moyes.
Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire could join West Ham
The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell is reporting that West Ham United have bid a combined total of £60m for both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. Each player respectively is subject to a £30m bid. West Ham’s bid for McTominay was rejected, as well as their bid for Harry Maguire, but their bid for the latter is getting close to United’s valuation. Whitwell states that David Moyes, West Ham manager, is a big fan of both United players.
Reports suggest Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would like to keep Scott McTominay for the midfield. Earlier reports suggested that Harry Maguire wanted to stay at United, but now it is believed the English international is open to a move to West Ham. The Athletic believes that West Ham would be willing to offer Maguire a £100,000 per week salary.
Maguire has been under heavy scrutiny for nearly his entire tenure at Manchester United. The defender has never lived up close to his price tag of nearly £80m. He’s no longer a starter at Manchester United, and he could be at risk of not making England’s Euros squad for 2024.
With negotiations between Southampton and West Ham United for James Ward-Prowse falling apart, the Hammers have turned their eyes to McTominay. The Scottish international has become a bench player under ten Hag, providing backup to Casemiro. Perhaps if a Sofyan Amrabat deal gets across the line, Manchester United will be more open to the idea of selling Scott McTominay.
