Arsenal receive massive transfer boost for their pursuit of David Raya
By Evan Curnew
It’s now clear that Arsenal wants to bring in a top keeper to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale. The England international was asked to play a lot of minutes last season; in fact, he played every single match for Arteta in the Premier League. With Champions League action on the menu for Mike Arteta’s side this season, two keepers battling it out for the starting spot could be a benefit to both players.
Arsenal’s last season backup keeper, Matt Turner, is subject to interest from Nottingham Forest. As The Top Flight has covered, Turner moving away from Arsenal will open up the spot for David Raya to take. The funds from a Turner deal could also theoretically be put toward signing Raya from Brentford. In what will be great news for Arsenal fans, their push to sign Brentford’s David Raya has received a massive boost.
Nottingham Forest finalize deal to sign Arsenal’s Matt Turner
David Ornstein of The Athletic is reporting that Matt Turner is close to joining Nottingham Forest. The USMNT keeper has a medical booked ahead of the move. A fee has yet to be reported for the transfer. Not surprisingly, Ornstein reaffirms that Turner’s outgoing will turn the wheels for Raya to the Emirates even more.
Fabrizio Romano has also chimed in on the transfer. In addition to confirming the completion of a deal, Romano believes that Nottingham Forest are not done with their keeping situation. After signing Matt Turner, Forest will circle back on Dean Henderson on Manchester United. Romano also states that the Gunners are “increasingly confident” about signing David Raya from Brentford. This would suggest that a fresh bid will be sent soon to their fellow London-based club.
David Raya has just a year left on his contract, and his departure from Brentford is labelled as imminent.
