Chelsea make breakthrough on midfield target as player demands transfer

As The Top Flight covered a week ago, Chelsea saw yet another bid of theirs rejected by Brighton for Moises Caicedo. It was believed that the bid was worth £80m, and Brighton immediately turned down the offer. The south-coast club has been adamant they want at least £100m for the Ecuadorian star and are holding tight on that valuation. It is also believed that Chelsea is willing to look at alternatives to Moises Caicedo if negotiable take a turn for the worse.

In what will be potentially good news for Chelsea fans, Moises Caicedo was left out of Brighton’s most recent friendly against Rayo Vallecano. Sky Sports suggest it could be to focus on Luton in the Premier League next week, but the timing is interesting. Fabrizio Romano states that Moises Caicedo has made his position with Brighton clear; he wants a transfer away this summer. While that was an expected feeling from Caicedo’s camp, it is now finally out there that Caicedo is hoping for a move to Chelsea. Romano states that negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs.

Sam Dean of The Telegraph is reporting that Chelsea is expected to come back with an improved bid in the next few days for Moises Caicedo. Mauricio Pochettino wants to have Moises Caicedo in before the beginning of the season. Chelsea take on Liverpool on August 13th in what will be a massive opening match for both clubs.

Assuming Moises Caicedo eventually does make the move to Stamford Bridge, the money Brighton gets from him can be hypothetically put towards their potential signing of Mohammed Kudus. That transfer could easily be done before Caicedos’, though, but that in itself could signal Brighton know they’re about to get a heap of money soon. Moises could join Roberto Sanchez as Pochettino’s second summer signing from Brighton.
