Once regarded as a wonderkid for Denmark, Mohamed Daramy of Ajax is looking to kick on this season. The 21-year-old winger spent last season on loan at his boyhood club F.C. Copenhagen after failing to impress Erik ten Hag during the 2021-2022 season. Daramy has been given some minutes this pre-season under the new manager Maurice Steijn and is now subject to Premier League interest.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Burnley manager Vincent Kompany considers Daramy a top target for the club. Burnley is expected to push to sign the Danish winger “at all costs,” according to Romano. Talks are commencing between Burnley and Ajax for Daramy. Danish journalist Farzam Abolhosseini suggests that Burnley is prepared to pay roughly £14m for Mohamed Daramy.

Daramy became the youngest-ever goal scorer for Copenhagen in 2019 when he netted in a cup fixture against Viby IF. Daramy joined Ajax in 2021 from FC Copenhagen for roughly £10m. Daramy did not fare well in his first season at Ajax. After the halfway point of the season, he was sent down to Ajax’s U21 side, who play in the second tier of the Netherlands. Mohamed Daramy was loaned back to Copenhagen in August of 2022 and helped the Danish giants win both the Superliga and the domestic cup. Daramy recorded 14 goal contributions between 28 Superliga and Superliga championship round matches.
Burnley already has a massive cohort of wingers, so their pursuit of Mohamed Daramy comes as a bit of a surprise. The club has signed wingers Luca Koleosho, Nathan Redmond and Jacob Bruun Larsen in this transfer window alone. They are also likely to add former Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend to their arsenal, who has been trialling with the team this pre-season. Daramy has experience at centre-forward, but even that position is pretty clogged for Vincent Kompany already.
Mohamed Daramy departing Ajax could help pay for the transfer fee of Carlos Forbs, who has joined from Manchester City.
