Manchester City transfer roundup: Big signing on the brink of completion
By Ivan Buss
Aymeric Laporte
Aymeric Laporte moved to Manchester City back in the winter window of 2018 and saw immediate success in Pep’s side. He was exactly the left-footed centre-half that Guardiola was asking for amid a sea of injuries to his defensive line at the time. However, his role has faded this past year, playing only 11 games in the Premier League with the emergence of Manuel Akanji and an incredible season from Nathan Aké.
Now, it seems Manchester City have set their asking price, and it is remarkably low for a player of Laporte’s caliber. For just £25 million, he will reportedly be allowed to leave the Etihad and move elsewhere, and Rudy Galetti has stated Laporte has a “concrete chance” to leave Manchester City this summer. It has been heavily rumoured that Tottenham are eyeing up the Spanish international, and yet Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on the situation as they look to add quality defensive depth. There are even rumours of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Aston Villa wanting to throw their hat in the ring for the 29-year-old.
Long story short, Laporte has no shortage of suitors, but it seems any deal is far from materializing as this piece is written.
