Chelsea’s youth movement has been fascinating to watch this transfer window. After a 12th-place finish, Todd Boehly and Co are building a long-term project of upcoming talent from around the world. One of their more recent wonderkid signings is Angelo Gabriel, and Chelsea could also add one of his former teammates this summer.

Fabrizio Romano is confirming the Brazilian reports of a £17m proposal from Chelsea for Santos’ Deivid Washington. Romano believes that the bid will be accepted by Santos, and Washington will be expected to join Ligue 1 side Strasbourg which Todd Boehly recently bought this summer. Hailed as one for the future, Deivid Washington is only just breaking into the professional game.

Washington made his debut for Santos in the Copa do Brazil, coming on in the 89th minute against Botafogo-SP. He’s regularly featured in the squad for Santos in the Brasileiro Serie A, mainly coming off the bench. He’s earned two goals in 9 matches so far. Washington also played in the 2023 edition of the Copinha, a highly-rated youth tournament that is played every year in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. He scored three goals in four matches, with Santos making it to the semi-finals.

Washington recently turned 18 making him eligible to head over to Europe right away. Despite becoming a prominent young player in Serie A, Washington has yet to feature for Brazil at the youth level, but that is likely to change once he makes his move to Europe.

Once the move goes through, Deivid will join the likes of Angelo Gabriel and Lesley Ugochukwu as players who could potentially join Strasbourg on loan for the season. As The Top Flight has reported, Chelsea has another striker target who, if signed, will likely be loaned to Strasbourg. That is French striker Elye Wahi, who Chelsea will now have to battle Eintracht Frankfurt for.
