Manchester City eye BIG signing before Arsenal Community Shield clash
By Kian Long
Manchester City are soon to face Arsenal in the Community Shield. The historic pre-season trophy clash is slightly unconventional this time round since Pep Guardiola’s men won BOTH the FA Cup and the Premier League. Therefore, as the rules state, the Community Shield will still go ahead, between the first and second-placed teams from the Premier League.
While Arsenal fans won’t want to be reminded of finishing second in the league, it does give Mikel Arteta an extra chance at silverware. Granted, it’s not the greatest or most prestigious trophy in the world but who would turn their noses up at starting the season with a major honour?
Both sides are surely going to field their best-strength lineups. For Pep Guardiola, he has around three different teams to choose from.
Perhaps the most exciting part of this fixture is that some new signings will be showcased to the world. For Arsenal, they have three new signings in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz. For Manchester City, they have Mateo Kovacic.
Manchester City want to complete Josko Gvardiol deal before Arsenal clash
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola aims to complete a new signing before the Community Shield match on Sunday. He would like to have all documents signed for defender Josko Gvardiol.
The pursuit for Gvardiol has been perhaps the longest transfer saga of this summer. It was thought several weeks ago that the deal was close to completion. However, the wrong news got out from trusted sources, and the false leak only complicated matters, making the transfer go back to square one.
However, Pep Guardiola is still confident he can get the deal over the line before the fixture commences. So, who knows, there could be a total of five new signings between the two teams on display.
Who do you think will win the Community Shield this year?
