Liverpool eye elite Manchester City gem as Romeo Lavia backup
By Kian Long
Liverpool’s main transfer target Romeo Lavia, has been a key talking point for the whole of this summer transfer window. It seems like all the big Premier League clubs are interested in signing him. Yet, no significant moves have made for him.
Of course, Lavia is destined to leave Southampton this summer. Given that the teenager was the Saints’ diamond in the rough last season as they were relegated, he is too good to be playing in the second tier of English football.
It seemed like Liverpool were leading the race to sign him as they were the only interested club to put some bids in to sign him. However, Southampton aren’t budging on their £50m valuation of Lavia which is putting Jurgen Klopp off.
Liverpool eye two options as Romeo Lavia alternatives
Now, the Reds are considering other options. They cannot spend too long trying to convince Southampton to accept less as they are losing valuable time in the transfer window. Let’s not forget that Liverpool need midfield signings more than anyone else, given the flurry of midfielders who have left the club this summer.
According to the Independent, Liverpool consider both Ryan Gravenberch and Kalvin Phillips as their two Romeo Lavia alternatives, in case they can’t make a deal happen for the Southampton teenager.
Gravenberch is no surprise since Liverpool were pursuing him around the same time they gave up on Jude Bellingham. He is on the fringe of first team football at Bayern Munich and it seems like a move away is best for his development.
Similar to Kalvin Phillips, who remains a great midfielder despite falling out of contention slowly at City. Although Pep Guardiola is a big fan of him and there would be more chances for him to play next season, he may have lost hope at the Etihad Stadium.
Who do you think Liverpool will sign as a Romeo Lavia alternative?
