Arsenal have made a major breakthrough in their latest pursuit of their biggest transfer target. Over the last number of days, they have pursued the signing of Brentford and Spain goalkeeper David Raya and the move has progressed much faster than their previous targets this summer.

Arsenal agree personal terms with David Raya of Brentford

According to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, an agreement in principle has been reached between Arsenal and David Raya. It is a long-term contract and a verbal agreement only currently, nothing has been signed. Raya is keen on the move and has informed Brentford – Now, the two clubs must discuss and meet a conclusion for Raya’s value before documents are signed.

According to a different source (the Evening Standard), Arsenal’s London rivals value the player at around £40m, which they believe is a more than fair value when benchmarked against the price Manchester United paid for Andre Onana (£47.2m).

Another factor which will play into the two team’s discussions to sign Raya is that his contract runs out next season. The Gunners will certainly feel like they can get a cheaper price for Raya because if not, Brentford could just lose him for free in a year’s time.

Arsenal have been criticised for choosing David Raya to pursue since the consensus seems to be that the money is better spent elsewhere. However, with Nottingham Forest interested in signing the current backup goalkeeper Matt Turner, replacing him with Raya is exceptional business, in my opinion.
