Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Brentford and Spain goalkeeper David Raya. It’s certainly a move which divides opinion, with some fans claiming that the move isn’t as necessary as other transfers which could be made. However, some recent news which has emerged may sway the minds of those fans.

Nottingham Forest eye the signing of Arsenal’s second-choice goalkeeper Matt Turner

According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are considering making a move for Arsenal’s backup goalkeeper Matt Turner. Although, the Midlands-based side are likely to wait until the conclusion of the David Raya saga before following through.

Of course, if Arsenal do manage to land Raya, then the logical conclusion would be for them to sell Turner to make up some of the value. Turner is the USMNT number one and a goalkeeper who could play for most of the lower half of the table. Therefore, he wouldn’t want to rot away on the Emirates Stadium bench.

Nottingham Forest will play in the Premier League next season, after they dramatically avoided the drop last time. Ironically, it was against Arsenal where they secured their safety, following a 1-0 win against the odds.

Next season is all about progress for Forest. By signing Turner, they would be making a serious statement of intent to those teams around them. Turner has experience on the big stage and, while he might’ve been second choice for Arsenal, still put in some incredible displays for the Gunners.

Last season, Turner was the Europa League goalkeeper for the Gunners at the beginning of their campaign. He made 5 starts for the Gunners in European competition. Further, he made 4 World Cup starts for the USMNT at the World Cup in Qatar.

Do you think Arsenal can justify signing David Raya if they sell Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest?
