Manchester United look like a revitalised outfit under their manager Erik ten Hag. He has got them playing the way fans have been wishing for since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Admittedly, he would like to add more trophies to his cabinet, but the fans and players seem to be on board with the project he is currently building at Old Trafford.
Last season, the Reds had a good campaign. They won the Carabao Cup, reached the FA Cup final and qualified for the Champions League. While Manchester was overshadowed by their rivals Man City, fans of United had many reasons to smile last season.
Some positive signings have been made in the transfer window, too. Much-needed acquisitions of midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana will see the squad improve next season. But one thing we mustn’t overlook is the contract extension for Marcus Rashford, who was the best player at Old Trafford last season.
Erik ten Hag convinced Marcus Rashford to stay at Manchester United
The English forward, speaking about his contract extension, accredited his renewed love for United to the boss Erik ten Hag. In fact, The Guardian has reported his comments about when he “considered leaving” Manchester United and would have done it had it not been for Erik ten Hag.
This again demonstrates the monumental impact the Dutch manager has had in Manchester. Signing players is one thing but keeping your best players is the most important thing. Rashford is certainly one of the best players in the league so had he genuinely left, he wouldn’t have been short of options.
Next season, Rashford is expected to return to his more natural position . He played more centrally than he liked last season due to the lack of striker options, but this is a position of priority for Ten Hag at the moment.
