Arsenal have had one of the best transfer windows in the Premier League this summer. They have made three signings worth around £200m collectively. But it’s not the amount of signings or their valuations which matters to Mikel Arteta – it’s the quality of additions.

Declan Rice makes the most sense of any signing this summer. He will come in and fill the void left by Granit Xhaka’s departure. Further, Kai Havertz adds more competition to a star-studded attack and will be valuable given his Champions League experience. Jurrien Timber is a versatile defender who will prove invaluable to Arteta as he seeks to rotate his defence occasionally next season.

But Arteta is not satisfied. Granted, he’s happy with his signings so far but looking ahead to next season, he’s not content. With that in mind, his next transfer target has been revealed.

Arsenal reveal David Raya as Mikel Arteta’s next transfer target

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are exploring the options to bring in David Raya, the Spanish goalkeeper from Brentford. The 27-year-old is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the league. According to The Guardian, Bayern Munich are also planning to step up their efforts to sign him.

As said, Raya is one of the best in the league for his position. However, one of the goalkeepers who are better than him already belongs to Arsenal – Aaron Ramsdale. Last season in particular, Ramsdale had a terrific season and, even given his age of 25 years old, he seems irreplaceable.

Notably, Arteta might be looking at the Champions League and the need to rotate his squad much more than last season. Although, rotating your goalkeeper is oftentimes unnecessary. Therefore, while I certainly wouldn’t turn up my nose if Raya were signed, I wouldn’t help but think that those funds are better spent elsewhere like backing up Bukayo Saka by signing a right winger.

Do you think Arsenal will sign David Raya?
