Chelsea eye Liverpool-bound young midfield star as Moises Caicedo stalls
By Kian Long
Chelsea have suffered endless frustration in their pursuit to sign the Ecuadorian international midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion. The Seagulls have proven difficult to negotiate with and are demanding extortionate requirements, which could put Chelsea’s ideal move in jeopardy.
It is slowly moving towards the best case scenario being Mauricio Pochettino walking away from the transfer. Caicedo is good, don’t get me wrong, but he is nowhere the level to justify what Brighton are asking for him. For half the price, there are options who are just as good if not better.
So now, Chelsea find themselves looking to Moises Caicedo alternatives. The club still hopes to find a resolution with Brighton, but as it looks less and less likely, alternatives must be considered, even if only precuationary.
Chelsea eye Liverpool-bound midfielder as Moises Caicedo alternative
According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s newest aim is bad news for Liverpool fans. Trusted source David Ornstein has claimed that the Blues plan to make a move for Romeo Lavia, who is the top target for Liverpool, after their £80m bid for Moises Caicedo was rejected.
This is sensible from Chelsea. It shows that they are not being bullied into overspending, which is something they have chosen to do willingly in the last two transfer windows. Instead, they will look at other options.
Lavia has Premier League experience and was the diamond in the rough for Southampton last season. As he is too good to be playing in the Championship, it’s thought that a transfer away from St Marys is inevitable, but the Blues must be quick as Liverpool have already started to bid.
Who do you think Chelsea will sign next?
