Chelsea: Pochettino flops the signing of Enzo Fernandez’ teammate
By Kian Long
It’s not like Chelsea needs to sign any more strikers, but the media will certainly link them with more striker signings in the coming weeks. In fairness, the club has brought in on themselves, since club owner Todd Boehly hasn’t exactly been logical with any of his transfer moves in recent seasons.
Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are firing on all fronts in pre-season. It looks set to be healthy competition between the two strikers over who will get the nod in the first team. Still, this isn’t a decision which Mauricio Pochettino will dislike making. Having to choose between two great strikers is a nice problem to have.
Chelsea miss out on Paulo Dybala signing
If recent news was anything to go by, then there could have been three strikers battling it out for contention. Indeed, we reported some weeks ago that Enzo Fernandez was trying to persuade his countryman and world-class attacker Paulo Dybala to sign at Stamford Bridge.
The level to which Chelsea were trying to make this move happen was unseen. However, it looks likely that Fernandez won’t get his wishes. According to Tuttomercatoweb (via Football Transfers), Paulo Dybala is set to sign a contract extension for Roma, thus eliminating any chance of Chelsea signing him.
If we’re being honest, this is not a big loss for Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino. They are not likely to pursue Dybala or any other centre forward given their influx in this position. He would’ve been a luxury signing at best.
