Chelsea at risk of not signing Moises Caicedo after Brighton’s demand
By Kian Long
This is probably the most dragged out transfer story of all time, but I’m here to provide yet another update in Chelsea’s pursuit to sign Moises Caicedo of Brighton. In fact, it’s been so dragged out that I can remember reports saying Caicedo is “close” to joining Stamford Bridge in January.
Well, the news I bring you all today isn’t going to speed up that process, unfortunately. In fact, it could even put the whole transfer at risk of not happening.
Talks stall between Chelsea and Brighton for the signing of Moises Caicedo
That’s right, according to The Guardian, talks have stalled between Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion over the signing of Moises Caicedo. Talks stalled because Chelsea are unwilling to entertain Brighton’s idea to include Levi Colwill as part of a swap deal.
I don’t know how clear Chelsea needs to make it that Levi Colwill is NOT FOR SALE. Mauricio Pochettino has openly stated that he would like to build his defence around the England youngster, but still Brighton persists in trying to sign him.
I think this is just a simple case of a small club who is not used to negotiating with big clubs. I know that the Brighton board are difficult to negotiate with at the best of times, but I think they are severely overvaluing how good a player Moises Caicedo actually is. There’s a reason why Arsenal backed out to spend more on Declan Rice.
In fairness to Brighton, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has kinda put this on himself. He is the one who has overspent and made the most ludicrous deals in the past two transfer windows, so it’s no surprise to see clubs trying to rinse him for everything he owns.
