West Ham are confident they’ll replace Declan Rice with £40m gem
By Kian Long
West Ham United have some work to do in the transfer window. Unfortunately for the Hammers, this summer has only been about significant players leaving the club. The most notable is their captain Declan Rice who has signed for Arsenal, but they’ve also lost Manuel Lanzini and could lose Michail Antonio as well.
David Moyes must sign a striker and a midfielder. It doesn’t take a genius to tell you that these are the positions of need for the Scottish manager. Particularly when you consider that West Ham will play in the Europa League next season, the current depth of players they have in these positions is not sufficient.
The good news is, though, that there’s time. The Hammers have been hard at work scouting players who fit their system, but now it’s about execution. Further, there is clearly money to be spent given that Rice left for a British transfer fee record.
West Ham are confident they can secure Edson Alvarez for £40m
According to reports from Football Insider, West Ham United are confident they can secure the signing of Edson Alvarez from Ajax this summer. The Mexican international midfielder is likely to cost around £40m, but he is the most likely option to replace Declan Rice. For a more in depth analysis as to why Alvarez is the perfect replacement for Rice, check the tweet above.
The report claims that talks are ongoing between West Ham and the player’s representatives, with Alvarez keen on a move to the Premier League. This, combined with Ajax’s reputation for being a selling club, indicates that Edson Alvarez could be a West Ham player sooner than we think.
