Chelsea “make contact” with Poch’s dream midfielder – Upgrade on Mount!

Chelsea are still making moves in the transfer window, despite their efforts to balance the books. In fairness, there has been plenty of deadwood shifted out from Stamford Bridge, freeing some room in the squad and some wage allocation for Mauricio Pochettino to pursue some new players.
The latest transfer target is the most exciting of them all, though. We reported yesterday that Chelsea were interested in signing Mohammed Kudus and even began speaking to Ajax about the potential deal. Well, excitingly for fans, there has been a further update on this deal.
Chelsea make contact with midfield target Mohammed Kudus of Ajax
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have been in contact with the player himself to enquire about his potential move to Chelsea. The report claims that Pochettino would like to sound out any potential decision Kudus may make and while it remains to be seen his preferred destination for next season, it seems likely that it’s away from Ajax.
Pochettino is one of the best man-managers in the world. Despite Chelsea not securing Champions League qualification or any European football at all next season, the acquisition of one of the best managers in the world could be enough to pull some of the best talent.
Kudus is certainly one of those. Ageing at 22 years old, he is a versatile and exciting playmaker who has the ability to play as an attacking midfielder, centre forward or right winger.
Given Pochettino’s inflated attacking options, it doesn’t seem likely he’ll need Kudus in the attack. Instead, he’ll be a direct replacement for Mason Mount by providing the anchor between midfield and attack. But still, it’s good to know he can play in the attack in case of injury or squad rotation.
