Arsenal decide Chelsea-bound winger should be Bukayo Saka’s backup

Arsenal are not done yet. They have secured three massive transfers which brings their squad value to the highest in Europe. However, Mikel Arteta is not yet satisfied as there is one position which keeps him awake at night.
Last season, the Gunners were tremendous throughout most of the season. However, they let it crumble towards the end. When it looked likely they would lift the Premier League title, in the end they handed it to Manchester City. Mikel Arteta hasn’t forgotten about this, so he would like to make his squad bullet-proof.
Arsenal eye Chelsea-bound Michael Olise as Bukayo Saka’s backup
Yesterday, we reported that Chelsea and Manchester City were in a race to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. However, according to 90min, Arsenal could also be within that race.
The report from 90min does claim that Chelsea are the most confident of the three clubs to strike a deal, however, Mikel Arteta won’t let that stop him. After shifting some players out of the Emirates Stadium, his focus will be on signing a wide-player who can act as backup to Bukayo Saka, who went the whole of last season without any backup.
Olise is the perfect option as he can play as a right-winger, right-midfielder or a central attacking midfielder. However, given how stacked Arsenal in the attacking midfielder spot, and that it’s Olise’s weakest position, the France international would be used as a right-winger.
Of course, he won’t get into the team on a regular basis. Arsenal are proud to have one of, if not the best right-winger in world football in Saka. However, with the Champions League in mind, squad rotation will be key for Mikel Arteta next season. Therefore, bringing in Olise would be ideal, it’s just a case of whether Olise will accept being a rotational player.
