Crystal Palace need a new star in their team. After losing Wilfried Zaha as a free agent, Roy Hodgson needs a player to come in and take the youngsters by the scruff of their necks to lead them to glory. To do this, the English boss is looking to a team full of winners, Manchester City.
Crystal Palace consider signing Aymeric Laporte
That’s right, according to Star Sunday, Crystal Palace are considering making a move for the unsettled Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte. A move for a player as big as Laporte would be a real statement of intent from Hodgson and one that says to the top half of the table that Palace are ready to compete with the like.
Given the dominance of the likes of Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and John Stones in the centre-back position, there is not much room for Laporte to fight for his space. Ageing at 29 years old, game time is of the utmost importance to the Spanish international defender. Therefore, signing for Crystal Palace may appeal to him.
Palace fans are tired of mid-table mediocrity. For many years, they have had a squad which is capable of pushing the top half of the table, but they have lacked the winning mentality and confidence to achieve these goals.
At Manchester City, this winning philosophy is essentially ingrained into every player. Therefore, Laporte would be able to bring some valuable lessons to the young players at Selhurst Park.
Laporte has today completed a very successful match in pre-season. He picked up an assist and looked sharp all game, making City fans question why he is even on the transfer list. Long story short, Palace must be quick to act before the Champions change their mind.
