The Top Flight reported this afternoon that Allan Saint-Maximin was attracting interest from the notorious Saudi Pro League. Should the talented and skilful forward leave, though, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe already has his eyes on a replacement.
Newcastle United locate Allan Saint-Maximin replacement
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United could soon complete the signing of Harvey Barnes. Barnes is one of the best upcoming England forwards, but ageing at 25 years old, his future does not seem to be fit in the Championship. Therefore, he is looking for a move away and his agents will certainly be drawn to Newcastle United and playing in the Champions League.
Indeed, Eddie Howe is building a project at St James Park. In order to build this project, the English manager must prioritise promoting younger players. While Saint-Maximin is only a year older than Barnes, it makes sense to go for a younger option if Saint-Maximin is leaving anyway.
It’s thought that Al-Ahli have bid 25m euros for Saint-Maximin. Given that his contract doesn’t expire until 2026 and he would be widely sought after if Newcastle announced him for sale, I highly doubt the Magpies will accept this embarrassingly small offer for the French forward.
He made 25 Premier League appearances and scored just one goal last season. Admittedly, he isn’t the most important player to Eddie Howe. Therefore, if the Toon side decides that he is up for sale, then nobody can really blame them.
Newcastle have big plans this summer. Having already signed Tonali, they would like to bring in some more world-class reinforcements. This is to ensure their squad is bolstered for the Champions League next season. This could be made possible by the funds raised through selling Saint-Maximin but they’ll have to do better than the current bid.
