It has been a strange couple of years for Chelsea and they are in yet another transition under Mauricio Pochettino. There are many outgoings as they look to trim their squad and they are looking to bring in some players who will bring solidity to their side.

That is why they are looking to one of Gareth Southgate’s main men; he is certainly a player that Southgate trusts but he has not been in form for his club.

Harry Maguire to join Chelsea

In a shock move, Chelsea are interested in the open to offers Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire. The England man has endured a torrid two seasons at Old Trafford after playing well under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his first two years.

However, the form has deteriorated and his confidence is shot at Old Trafford with many “fans” making Maguire the scapegoat and making his life hard whilst he was trying to regain form.

Since being dropped as club captain, it looks like his time at Old Trafford is drawing ever closer to the end.

Will he help Chelsea?

Maguire is certainly a good player, he was probably not worth £80 million but that is United’s fault in the transfer market more than him. However, he is in need of a fresh start and Chelsea could offer him a place to build.

Chelsea will be without Wesley Fofana for a long time now as he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines and with Thiago Silva now 38 there is a need for Maguire to head to London.

With a fresh start under a top-class manager who will be able to get the best out of him, it could be a good move all round as Maguire bids to play first-team football and keep himself in Southgate’s plans for Euro 2024.

How much will Chelsea have to pay?

They could be in for tough negotiations with Manchester United. The club have recently turned down a loan offer from West Ham for the centre back but after the recent deal with Mason Mount they could play hardball to recoup as much money as they can.

It is expected United are valuing Maguire at £40 million which is a fair deal considering he is 30 years old, two years left on his contract and is still an England international.

A fresh start is needed for Maguire and Chelsea could be his new home.
