Tottenham Hotspur have had a successful summer so far, making some much-needed adaptations to their squad. This summer is also about the arrival of new boss Ange Postecoglou, making new beginnings at the club.

Last season was a write off for Spurs. While they may have had a positive start to the season, and Harry Kane pulled them through with his consistent goal scoring ability, they tailed off towards the end of the season. Hierarchical bust-ups is what they hope to avoid next season, which should be dandy given that Ange and Daniel Levy seem to get on well.

But one situation which is looming in the background involves Harry Kane. Entering the final year of his Tottenham contract, the England international is subject to a move away. Bayern Munich wants to sign him and given Kane’s eagerness to sign there, they will not give up.

Daniel Levy is obviously one of the most stubborn men in football, but even he must be considering the possibility of his best asset leaving. With that in mind, he has ordered the recruitment team at Spurs to seek a replacement option just in case.

Tottenham Hotspur consider signing Ivan Toney as Harry Kane’s replacement

According to Football Transfers, a name which has entered the shortlist of Kane replacements is Ivan Toney. Currently serving his ban for breaching betting regulations, he will return in January. Therefore, Spurs consider signing him when he is available to play football again.

Spending the majority of the season away is quite significant, and something I would consider Spurs to think harder about. It’s not likely he’ll return and hit the same form straight away, certainly not the form of Kane. He will be rusty upon his return, but it is understandable why Postecoglou considers signing him since he is at his peak and even after his punishment, will still be 27 years old.

Do you think Ivan Toney is the right option for Tottenham Hotspur?
