Despite the rumoured Manchester United takeover, the club does not have unlimited funds. Given their transfer plans at the start of the window, this is what tabloids believed to be the case. They were linked with some expensive deals including Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Mason Mount.

Of course, they got the last deal over the line, but have had to look at budget-friendly options for the striker chase. Instead of Kane and Osimhen, it looks to be Rasmus Hojlund.

While budget-friendly options can prove to be great additions and, of course, they look better on balance sheets, fans want to see big names come in. This is why Erik ten Hag is looking for greater flexibility in his transfer plans, and is taking matters into his own hands.

Erik ten Hag open to selling Manchester United’s Scott McTominay

According to Metro, Erik ten Hag is considering the sale of Scott McTominay, to fund his transfer plans this summer. McTominay is subject to a move away, with Premier League clubs lining up to sign him. For example, West Ham United would be a great destination for McTominay given the departure of Declan Rice.

Scott McTominay has been with Manchester United for 6 years now, but has yet to make a significant stamp on the first team. Granted, he has played adequate minutes but if truth be told, he wouldn’t have gotten those minutes if the midfielders above him were fit all season.

At his age, McTominay should aim for higher than a rotational player. He must move somewhere that could offer him a permanent place in the starting eleven.
