Chelsea are clearly wanting to clean shop and the departures are set to continue this summer. With an ever-expanding squad and a squad that have not lived up to expectation, despite a Champions League win in 2021, for many years now. With a disappointing Premier League finish in the history books, new manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to get his side in good working order for the 2023/24 season.
Which Chelsea player is close to departure?
With many players leaving Stamford Bridge quicker than a wink of an eye, their former record transfer signing Romelu Lukaku is expected to leave in the coming days. The Belgian striker was a signing of intent from the Blues in 2021 who were in desperate need of a striker to help them challenge for the title.
However, after spending £97.7 million Lukaku has only spent one season with Chelsea after returning to the club. After just 8 goals and Lukaku failing to meet the demands of the Premier League again, Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan.
Now his loan has expired at Inter Milan he has returned to Chelsea but the return is not likely to last long.
Where is Romelu Lukaku expected to go?
With the offers flowing in quickly from Saudi Arabia, Lukaku was expected to sign for the big money. However, he seems very keen to once again continue playing for Inter Milan.
The Belgian international is still only 30 years old and has 280 club career goals. He found the net 14 times for Inter Milan last season in all competitions as he helped the Italian club reach the Champions League final.
It is obvious why Inter Milan are keen to sign the striker on a permanent basis once again.
How much are Inter Milan willing to spend?
Lukaku has accumulated over £300 million in transfer fees (including loan fees) and that is set to grow.
The Italian side have already placed a bid of £25.7 million but the opening offer is now being negotiated as Chelsea value Lukaku more at £40 million.
It is only a matter of time before Lukaku leaves Stamford Bridge as he has been given permission to stay away from the club and continue his pre-season training on his own.
