Everton have been active in the transfer window as of late, with The Top Flight recently claiming they were interested in signing Anthony Elanga from Manchester United. So, we know that they’re interested in a current United winger, but according to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, they have actually signed a former United winger.
Everton are “set to confirm” Ashley Young
That’s right, Romano claims that Everton are “set to confirm” the signing of Ashley Young. The former England international is a free signing after his contract ended at Aston Villa. Now he has completed all of his medical tests and signed the relevant documents, all that’s remaining is for Young to be announced by the Toffees.
For Sean Dyche, this is an excellent signing since he will bring in an abundance of Premier League experience which will prove to be invaluable as he seeks to build the mentality of some of his younger players.
After the Toffees had a season to forget last time out, fans think that they need a fresh burst of energy. I mean this in no disrespect to Ashley Young, but he does not provide that.
What he does provide though, is experience. Not only has Young won the Premier League and been coached by the greatest of all time Sir Alex Ferguson, but he has done so in many different positions. Having played as both a winger and a full-back, his presence in the Everton squad will be absolutely invaluable.
Take it from me, Everton fans. This finalisation of Ashley Young’s deal is one which makes me incredibly jealous as an Arsenal fan. Why? Because it took less than sixteen months.
What do you make of Everton signing Ashley Young for free?
