When you think of the best managers in the history of the Premier League, there are two former Manchester United bosses which crop up in conversation. Obviously, there is Sir Alex Ferguson who is a contender for the GOAT manager. Then, there is Jose Mourinho who obviously was more notorious at Chelsea, but still won a European trophy at Manchester United.
Now managing in Serie A for AS Roma, the Portuguese manager has not forgotten his roots. Indeed, he is very keen on one Manchester United player in particular.
Jose Mourinho eyes Scott McTominay from Manchester United
According to Football Transfers, Mourinho wants to sign Scott McTominay at Manchester United. The Scotsman is a player who Erik ten Hag would like to keep, according to the report. However, any manager could be swayed for the right price.
Having recently signed Mason Mount, McTominay is likely considering whether he’ll get sufficient game time next season. While the two are different in their playing styles, the midfield was already hard enough for McTominay to break into, let alone with the signing of Mount.
Furthermore, Fred is the most likely option to leave Manchester United this summer. In today’s transfer news, we revealed that both Fulham and clubs from Saudi were interested in signing the Brazil international. To sell both of them would be a big loss for Erik ten Hag, even if they were only rotational players.
At the age of 26 years old, McTominay won’t want to stay if he is just a squad player. Say what you want about his love for the club, as a 26-year-old with ambition, your first priority is ALWAYS game time. Or at least it should be, anyway.
