Arsenal’s biggest deal in this transfer window is set to be announced today, if recent reports from the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano are to be believed.
Mikel Arteta has been on a rampage of the good kind recently, having already secured the signing of Kai Havertz. Further, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are undergoing medicals today so they will be finalised very soon.
But there is one announcement expected today which is the biggest official announcement so far. According to Romano, Arsenal are expected to announce the contract renewal of William Saliba today.

The defender has been in agreement of a new deal for some time now, however, the finalisation and announcement processes were delayed due to Saliba being on holiday. Now that he is back and officially signed, Romano expects an official club announcement today.

Extending players’ contracts when they are close to ending is not an easy feat. Therefore, it is important to recognise the hard work of Mikel Arteta and Edu behind the scenes to make it happen with Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Reiss Nelson already. Fans are excited to see Saliba officially added to that list.
Saliba was Arsenal’s most important player last season. This was demonstrated by his absence due to injury towards the end of the season. When the Frenchman become injured, Arteta’s side capitulated due to insufficient backup. Next time out this won’t happen as Jurrien Timber could either directly replace Saliba or take Ben White’s current right-back role, allowing the Englishman back to his natural position.
