Arsenal had a terrific season last time out. While the blame is often accredited to Mikel Arteta, the Spanish boss will be the first to recognise the collective effort behind the scenes which has gone into the incredible rebuild. From an improved academy to an improved recruitment team, there are a lot of factors.

But none more so than the scientific approach which the medical team has taken. We have seen players return from their respective injuries sooner than expected and more importantly, better than they were before the injury. Most notably, the injury to Gabriel Jesus highlighted the great work that the Arsenal medical team put in.

Annoyingly for Arsenal, they are expected to lose the main man in this department to Manchester United. That’s right, according to the trusted Athletic journalist David Ornstein, head of medical services at the Emirates Stadium, Dr Gary O’Driscoll, is expected to move to Manchester United later this summer.

During the transitional period, O’Driscoll will remain in North London before completing his switch later this summer.

Regardless what the trolls might say about Arsenal’s injuries, and certainly they did affect the title challenge last season, O’Driscoll is one of the best in England at his job. Those who have watched the All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime will have seen the medical approaches which O’Driscoll leads his team to take are second to none and United are getting a true expert.

Boasting 14 years of experience, United will be getting a true medical veteran who will certainly transform the medical treatment of their players.

Do you think this is a big loss for Arsenal?
