The hype is still very much real among the Old Trafford Faithful. Yesterday, Manchester United officially announced the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea. After what seemed like years of negotiations between the two clubs, Mount finally landed his dream move to United, where he will impressively don the number 7 jersey.

The feeling is quite bitter from Chelsea fans. Understandably so, given the club’s best efforts to keep their homegrown star. It turns out that Mason Mount even rejected a huge £200,000 per week contract extension at Stamford Bridge, so he could play under Erik ten Hag instead.

But the reason why Mount wanted to leave Chelsea so badly is still up in the air. While many fans on social media think it was for money reasons, only Mount knows his true intentions.

Mason Mount reveals why he left Chelsea for Manchester United

Which is why, as luck would have me as a reporter, Mount has outwardly stated the reason why he left Chelsea to sign for United. According to the club’s official website (via 90min), Mount says “Several months ago, it became clear that I wasn’t in Chelsea’s plans moving forward”.

It’s becoming quite a common theme that Chelsea players are beginning to feel slightly out of place at Stamford Bridge. I guess this is the price you have to pay as a club owner when you are spending ridiculous amounts of money on players you don’t need.

Understandably, Mount didn’t know the direction which Chelsea were heading in and more importantly, what the direction meant for him as a player. With a multitude of players signed, his position was up in the air. As a young player who aims to become one of the best in the world in his position, it is most important that game time is guaranteed to you. Therefore, Mount’s reasoning for leaving Chelsea to sign for Manchester United is justified.

Do you think Mount will be a success at United?
