Arsenal are currently involved in a three-horse race to sign Romeo Lavia. The Southampton midfielder was their diamond in the rough throughout their last season in the Premier League. To avoid playing Championship football, which Lavia is too good for at his age, it’s thought the midfielder would like a move to the Premier League.

Romeo Lavia chooses Arsenal over Chelsea and Liverpool

However, thankfully for fans, Lavia would prefer to join Arsenal over their two main competitors Liverpool or Chelsea. This is according to Football Transfers. And understandably so, the Emirates Stadium is home to a much more attractive project than those at Anfield and Stamford Bridge.

Although, Lavia is not the highest on Arsenal’s to-do list. Firstly, they are looking to finalise deals for Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. These two players have been in the pipeline for some time now, and efforts will soon be increased to finalise those deals. After they are secured, then Mikel Arteta can focus his attention on Lavia.

Lavia is likely to come in as a direct replacement for Thomas Partey. The 19-year-old is already becoming an expert at playing inside the midfield pivot. He anchors the defence well and has a great range of passing, making him the ideal candidate to replace Partey should he be sold.

The midfield for Arsenal could look very different next season. However, this is the area of the pitch which Mikel Arteta most needed to tighten for the future. Replacing the ageing midfielders with younger alternatives will serve Arteta well as he looks to build his project in North London for the future.

Still, Arsenal might need to act fast if they are in the market for Romeo Lavia. We revealed earlier today that Liverpool are planning to open the bidding for Lavia, the first club to do so. Therefore, if Arteta would like to fulfil the players wishes, then he should get a move on too.

Where do you think Romeo Lavia will sign this summer?
