With the Mason Mount deal seemingly complete and an announcement imminent, Manchester United have turned their attention to who will partner him in the midfielder. Of course, they already have exceptional quality on their doorstep with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. However, Ten Hag is keen to bring in another fresh face to really perfect his midfield array.
Manchester United eye Sofyan Amrabat to partner Mason Mount
According to an update from Sport Witness, Manchester United are “strongly interested” in signing Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. Thankfully, like Mount, the Moroccan international is entering the final year of his contract, so the Serie A club will be more inclined to sell him for a bargain fee.
The report claims that Atletico Madrid are also interested in signing Amrabat, who helped Morocco to breaking African history in the most recent World Cup. Therefore, it is no surprise to see that United are acting fast.
The source which Sport Witness cite has also added that an “economic agreement” has been reached with Amrabat. Assumingly, this means he has agreed personal terms with United already. Although, what’s important is that agreeing personal terms is not legally binding until the club accepts the move.
Amrabat is a defensive midfielder, so will not challenge Mason Mount who will play as an attacking midfielder or winger, presumably. Of course, Casemiro is the king in this defensive midfield position but by signing Amrabat, this would not only give Ten Hag more depth, but a different option should plan A not work.
Further, we all know that Casemiro has severe disciplinary issues and last season it felt like he spent more time suspended than playing. Therefore, the acquisition of Amrabat makes sense.
With Fred and Scott McTominay likely to be on their way out, signing Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mouunt shows that United are hungry to compete with Manchester City and Arsenal next season.
