Mikel Arteta has been on a rampage in the transfer window recently but Arsenal fans certainly won’t mind. Having already secured Kai Havertz from Chelsea, the deals for Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice are thought to be “very close“.
Arsenal: Mikel Arteta’s final transfer plan involves Bukayo Saka
Although, this sudden burst of energy from Arsenal in the transfer window will not stop there. Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Mikel Arteta could look to bring in another forward before the transfer window closes. This is in the hopes that Bukayo Saka will have sufficient backup heading into the new season.
And it’s very much needed. With Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League next season, there will be even more fixtures where Arteta is forced into playing his best strength starting eleven, Therefore, he’ll be wary not to overwork Saka in the off-chance of injury.
Surprisingly, Saka is not injury-prone. I say this because wingers tend to be the most injury-prone players on the pitch. Further, given his direct approach and speed, he is often the target of fouls and some quite hefty ones at that. But still, he went all of last season unfazed by injuries.
But Arteta doesn’t want to risk that for another season. According to Jones, “They’ve always liked the idea of bringing in another creative outlet partly because Saka had to play so many games last season”.
This would be a great bit of business from Arsenal. Even if Saka does go another season without picking up an injury, the worst case scenario would be that Arteta has strengthened his depth.
Having more players in the front-line gives Arteta another option when things don’t work out. Further, to challenge Manchester City you must beat them at their own game, which is unpredictability and the ability to bounce back from adversity – both of which made possible by humongous squad depth.
Do you think Arsenal should sign another forward?
