West Ham eye Manchester United midfielder as Declan Rice replacement
By Kian Long
With the news that has broken today about Declan Rice, it’s now essentially confirmed he will leave West Ham United. I mean, only a fool would have clung onto hope anyway, but now any remaining hope can be diminished. There are two teams in the race now – Arsenal AND Manchester City.
But the West Ham board knew this was coming all along, so they have stuck to their original plan. They will bring in a midfielder to replace Rice when (not if) he leaves. The timeframe for when Rice does leave remains to be seen, as it looks like there could be a bidding war.
West Ham locate Scott McTominay to replace Declan Rice
According to the latest from talkSPORT, West Ham is keen to bring in Scott McTominay from Manchester United to replace Declan Rice.
Scott McTominay is a similar player, or at least he can play the same role as Declan Rice if needed. McTominay plays as a box-to-box midfielder for Manchester United and he’s known to step up when needed.
However, unfortunately for the Scotsman, he is surplus to requirements under Erik ten Hag, hence the potential move to work with David Moyes.
McTominay is very defensively clued up, so he could play in the pivot in London, to fill the void left by Declan Rice’s departure. Ageing at 26 years old, it’s important to McTominay that he guarantees himself gametime, something that can only be accomplished by moving away from Old Trafford.
Do you think West Ham will sign Scott McTominay?
