Arsenal have made it no secret that they would like to sign Declan Rice this summer. In fact, newspapers everywhere has linked the Gunners with a move that at this point, looks obvious.

But, I must emphasise that it only “looks” obvious. If the Arsenal board has proven anything over the last few seasons, it’s that they don’t always get what they want, whether that be on the pitch or off the pitch.

This is why it’s important to have a shortlist of backup options. With that being said, here are 5 players who could be considered as Declan Rice alternatives.

Arsenal: 3 Declan Rice alternatives

1) Moises Caicedo

Feels like the most obvious choice, although he’s probably the hardest option on this list.

The Ecuadorian midfielder agreed terms to sign for Arsenal in the January transfer window, although he was convinced by Roberto De Zerbi to stay until the summer. With this in mind, he is available to sign in this transfer window, as confirmed by The Top Flight a few weeks ago.

Moises Caicedo is the player who is most similar to Declan Rice on the market. Not only does he boast Premier League experience, but he bosses the number 6 role just as well as Rice does.

For Brighton this season, he played a key role in being the anchor between defence and midfield. Not only does he receive and carry the ball well in tight situations, but he also wins back possession for his side which would make him the perfect Mikel Arteta player.
