With Manchester United likely to lose Scott McTominay and Fred from their roster this summer, they need to strengthen heavily in the midfield department. With Donny van de Beek returning from his lengthy injury absence, this has given United fans plenty of hope for next season.
However, it won’t be as easy to simply integrating him back into the starting eleven. According to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, Donny van de Beek is looking at options elsewhere this summer since, despite his love for the club and Erik ten Hag, he needs to focus on guaranteed game time above all else.
Donny van de Beek set to leave Manchester United
So, that makes three departing midfielders this summer: Fred, McTominay and Van De Beek.
This leaves United with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes to ponder with. Admittedly, this is Erik ten Hag’s best trio anyway, but he would like to sign some new players in this position to add to their squad depth, particularly given their involvement in the Champions League next season.
It’s not been the best time for Donny van de Beek at Manchester United. Indeed, it was thought that bring in Erik ten Hag would bring the best out of him but he’s not lived up to the status he was set when he first joined the club.
Put this down to injury, put it down to adjustment issues, put it down to whatever you want. There’s no avoiding it. Donny van de Beek goes down as another Manchester United flop.
