It has been a season of woe for the blue side of London and this summer is expected to be a big one. It is expected the carousel of playing for Chelsea is about to continue to the point where you may be lead to believe that you have in fact been signed by the Blues.

With so many already come in and more to be anticipated that means there are bound to be players on the way out. With rumours of Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic being two big names to depart Stamford Bridge, another big name is also expected.

Real Madrid come calling

The departure of Karim Benzema has led Real Madrid on a striker hunt. Their first choice is Harry Kane but it is believed that if Kane does not fancy a change of culture then their second choice will be 23-year-old Chelsea man Kai Havertz.

The German international has become a striker in recent times for Chelsea having signed as an attacking midfielder. However, this season, in a poor season for the club, he has still scored nine times for Chelsea.

Would the move make sense?

Incoming manager Maurico Pochettino has one big job on his hands and after a catastrophically bad year for Chelsea who, in recent history, are expected to be challenging for the top four, if not more, will be wanting to wipe the slate clean.

If he is able to use some of the £75 million demanded by Chelsea to fill the gap left by Havertz then he will probably take that risk.

Havertz certainly brings a lot to the table for the Blues with fantastic hold-up play and can bring other players into the game well as he occupies that false nine position. However, Chelsea and Pochettino will more than likely be looking for a genuine out-and-out striker.

However, Real Madrid could use a player like him to link up the play either from the centre of the park or directly through the middle. Havertz would have no problem finding the likes of Vinícius Júnior or Rodrygo.

Will Kai Havertz leave Chelsea?

It is all dependent on the Kane transfer for now but in terms of Chelsea being a selling club, that is certainly going to be the case as they need to off load and try again.

If another club came in for Havertz and Chelsea were able to recoup something close to the initial £62 million they paid for him in 2020 then they would not hesitate and reinvest that into a squad backing Pochettino…for now!
