Mount’s Season in Numbers

It’s safe to say that Mason Mount and Chelsea by extension have had a season to forget. The man from Portsmouth also struggled with form and fitness, as injuries restricted him to only 24 Premier League appearances, the lowest in his Chelsea career.

Despite providing the lowest returns ever (5 goal contributions) in his time with the Blues’ first team, Mount’s underlying numbers (Source: Fbref) paint an above-par picture.

  • 5.95 progressive passes per 90 – 93rd percentile among midfielders in Europe
  • 3.6 shot creating actions
  • 1.98 tackles per 90 – 88th percentile among midfielders in Europe
  • 2.41 progressive carries per 90
  • ~0.3 non-penalty xG+xA per 90

In his four years at Chelsea, Mount has played under three different managers and therefore has exposure to different styles of the game. Therefore, the Chelsea midfielder adds quality, variety, experience and leadership to any side that he features for, especially two rival clubs that will feature in next season’s Champions League.
